Details

This antique 19th century micromosaic depicts the Ponte Salario, the ancient Roman bridge that once spanned the Aniene River north of the city. Bordered by iolites and accented with blue sapphires along a finely crafted bezel, the scene is rendered from countless tiny pieces of colored glass arranged with extraordinary precision. Produced in Rome and Vatican workshops, micromosaics such as this were prized souvenirs of the Grand Tour, collected for their artistry and rarity. Handcrafted in rich gold and finished with a hinged bale that clips easily to a necklace.
